This works both ways.
So many of us are in the journey of growth without integrating pruning and setting down habits to clear space for new growth. Our containers need spaciousness for growth.
This soul gardening works both ways.
In breath work during yoga today, I was delivered some peace around letting old frames of seeing have a dignified death. These frames were fabulous and helped me arrive where I am. I love them very much. But my new frames won’t arrive until I put these ones down.
We may be accustomed to laying to rest parts of our lives we do not love - for example I once held a funeral for my waitressing career. I burned my uniform and bought flowers and spoke a eulogy 💐 But it doesn’t occur to me to hold a ritual of laying to rest ways of being that I have loved … but that don’t align with the growth I’m calling in. The good-enough-for-now habits and thought patterns that do not fit my future growth. Grant us the courage to lay down to rest familiar parts of ourselves before the new parts have fully shown themselves 💛

Forgive the Pollyanna bent here, but what I mean by this working both ways is that during our local fire emergency in Los Angeles, the epic scale of destruction does invite new growth. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that. And there is no way back, there is only the present which leads us forward. To our best abilities, co-creating with the Divine, we rise to meet our present and our future. Laying down what we think we know in order to be guided with open hearts. While mourning what is lost. Space to mourn is an essential ingredient 🪦

On a personal note: I am seeing some gorgeous gratitude lists making the rounds, for moments in 2024. Love that. I have one of my own. But also: 2024 knocked me down and around and sidewise and at writing this on December 30th, hasn’t even finished delivering its punches. This is also true for many in my circles. 2024 has been tough.
So.
I am holding space for myself and for all who need it, to honour our grief list, our beaten up list, our wound list of 2024. I am often drawn to short-circuit to the uplifting lesson part of hard times. But we cannot bypass the full experience of grief and loss and struggle. No shortcuts worth taking.
Anyway, I am holding out a permission slip for us all to acknowledge the bruises of 2024 and give them space.

My mother died about six weeks ago. It’s the end of the world as we knew it.
Now what?
That is what I am here for. Now what. The intense body grief wracking my shell is waning a little and my whole nervous system is ready to ping “back to normal” like a pulled rubber band. But there is no normal to ping back to.
Today I start to take that as a gift, a portal for truly transforming, both from the having her and the loss of her. Now it becomes a journey of curiosity and delight to transform in her honour. With the legacy of her brilliance AND the challenges she gave me.

We are all in the process of dying. It’s Scorpio season and our time to practice that in our meditations, understandings and even in our embodiment. Fine. I love this time of year for that reason. It’s a time to compost, lay to rest tools that have served in the previous seasons, all of that. But I heard the language “end of life” yesterday in relation to my mother*. And experienced all the human pain and sorrow and grief that has no name. A day of sobbing. I was unable to function as I typically do in this over-culture of busy-ness and worth-by-actions. Fine. Appropriate, uncomfortable, painful. There are fewer and fewer times and places we allow ourselves to feel completely and not do. Sadness is a show stopper. Good. But duuuuuuude, not a practice. Different than our Samhain rituals and death meditations. You know?

Today I feel differently than I did yesterday. I am called to pay attention to mum’s physical decline with respect and love and wonder. Purity. Okay-ness. Witness without ego. When I turn down the volume in my ego experience, I allow the universe to take the wheel in all her wisdom. And I cry. Love.

Our small family unit is lucky that mum has thrived for so long and that this is our version of her decline. There are so many ways the end of life is experienced. I’m sharing as we go through this in hopes it can be of service to others and with understanding it won’t be for some. I also share as sacred witness to this special season of my mother’s earthly time.

Whoosh, here we go! Spring equinox always feel like the true start of a year to me. Two Aries new moons plus this massive Pluto transition makes this one extra extra. For me, that’s showing up as a mixture of curiosity and overwhelm. What about you?

Here I pulled a card for heartbreak and received 5ofW. Conflict, many voices in the chorus, a call to leadership. Yup. Then a card for a thread to pull to take action: The Magician! Here she is in her magic hat, with all elements at her disposal to create the life she desires, needs, deserves.

When life cracks open, if we choose that it happens for us rather than to us, we have an opportunity to rise to our dreams. Requires the work of attention, breaking habits, and endless self love.
